Welcome to our Web home!

VAA Chapter 16 is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of antique/classic aircraft.  We were incorporated in 1986 as a chapter of the Vintage Aircraft Association, a division of the Experimental Aircraft Association.  Our group is currently small, but we have big goals.  We are raising funds for an add on to our chapter hangar that we hope to eventually use as a museum to highlight the Kansas City area's rich aviation heritage, and house examples of aircraft built in the KC area, and the Midwest in general.  The chapter meets every 2nd Friday of the month at 6:00PM for dinner in Gardner, Kansas and our meeting at 7:30PM at the VAA hangar #16 at Gardner Airport (see events page)

VAA Chapter 16 hosts a fly-in at Gardner Municipal Airport ("Best little airport in Kansas") each year on the 4th Saturday in June.  Our fly-in has become a very popular event for airplane enthusiasts in the surrounding area and we've had visitors from as far away as Florida attend.  With 2 grass runways, good food, good folks, and lots of old airplanes...what's not to love?  We host several Young Eagles events each year, several cook-outs when the weather permits, and hangar flying every weekend.

There are many Antique/Classic aircraft on our field from a Grand Championship winning 1932 Waco UEC, a 1945 Beech Staggerwing, and  an award winning 1936 Monocoupe with a 165 Warner.  You've just gotta love those round engines!  So if you're an airplane enthusiast, and you're anywhere near the Kansas City area, come see us, we would love to have you join in our quest!
