2012 National Biplane Fly-in 2012
Date: June 2nd thru 5th 2011
National Biplane Fly-In
Place: Junction City, KS (3JC)
2011 Nation Biplane Fly-In. This is the continuation of the National
Fly-In that had been held in Bartlesville, OK for many years. EAA Chapter
1364 under the leadership of Jim Clark (newest member of VAA16) resurrected this great Fly-In when the Bartlesville group stopped doing it. Last year was their first and I believe it will only grow from here to one of the Midwest best. Junction city is not far to go, so plan to attend, It's a good group of folks, and a good event.
EAA Chapter 200 Fly-in 2012
Date: June 18th
Chapter 200 Fly-in
Place: Gardner Municipal (K34)
EAA Chapter 200's anual WWI Fly-in. This is a neat Fly-In with lots of WWI replica aircraft. Marvin Story and his group work hard to put on a fun laid back event, plan to attend.
Oshkosh.....the big show!
Date: July 25 thru 31
As usual a few of our members are planing on going this year and would like to camp together. Kevin Pratt, Dick and Linda Michaels, Carol Womack, Bob Anderson are for sure going and Bob is going to rope off a camp area the Wednesday before the show. Anyone else that is going and wants to camp with the us in a VAA 16 bunch, please let Bob Anderson know so he can get us enough space.
I know that at least Bob and I will be there thru the last Friday of the show.

Blakesburg.....Antique Airplane Heaven!
Date: August 31st thru Sept 5th
Really folks, if you love antique aircraft, and have never been to Blakesburg.......something is wrong!
There are about 10 members that go almost every year and will again in 2011. You need to be a member of the AAA or a guest of a member to attend. I do not camp out for this one but there are facilities if you wish to camp. Most of us stay at the Hotel Ottumwa, or other Ottumwa hotels, but you need to get reservations NOW, they fill us fast. You also need a way into town. Rental cars are available on the field from Enterprise but you need to call the local Ottumwa Enterprise, not the 800 number and tell them you need a car at the airshow in Blakesburg, they will know what you mean. I will have a rental car there and space for 2-3 people. Blakesburg (Antique Field) has a funky North South runway and I suggest you check out their website for tips on coming in there.

For the first meeting of our new year we have a lot to go over! Also it is renewal time so we need to get 2012 dues and a new roster started.
As has been our tradition, we meet for dinner before the meeting. Those who wish to join us for dinner are welcome, we will meet this month at Austin"s Restaurant & Bar in Gardner, On moonlight rd just north of 175th St. We meet there at 6:00 pm.
