VAA Chapter 16
"Flatland Flyers"
"Dedicated to the Preservation and Maintenance of Vintage Aircraft"
A special thanks to our guest speaker, Marcia Mason from Reklaw, TX!
Our January chapter meeting was a great success and well attended. Marcia Mason co-chairman of the wildly popular Reklaw Texas fly-in was our guest speaker and talked about the beginnings of the event, and the ongoing efforts to keep it growing, and make it better. She was very interesting and informative. Our hats are off the her and her husband Dave for keeping this unique fly-in alive for 25 years! Thank you Marcia
Ron Wright makes good on threat!
As many of you may remeber, our elustious past president Ron Wright thru down the gauntlet last year when we became a 501c3 organization. The challenge was that he would donate $1000 to the chapter hangar fund if someone would match him! Well, that someone was Cam Blazer. At the chili feed on New Years day, Cam informed Ron that he was picking up the gauntlet, so at last nights chapter meeting, Colonel Ron "Cotton" Wright presented our Treasurer with a check for $1000 to go toward the "Build a Hangar Campaign". So the Colonel now owns (on paper) 40 sq ft of the proposed hangar!
A huge thanks to Ron and Sharyl Wright!
Were gonna have pictures in the March Vintage Magazine
I recieved an email request from Theresa Books at VAA headquarters to use a few pictures from our website in the March Issue of the VAA magazine. I believe they will show up on the events page. Here are the ones they selected!

Airline History Museum Brings Home the L-1011
Saturday January 30th at 3:20pm, the L-1011 that the Airline History Museum has been trying to bring home for over a year, finally set it feet down on Kansas City's Downtown Airport! You can see video courtesy of our own (and there own) Gwyn Bowan on youtube.com at the link below. Congrats to all the people at the AHM for this great accomplishment!
Volunteers for this year's fly-in are lineing up!
A personal thank you from Jeff Sullens and I for all the people that have contacted myself and the other leaders to volunteer to help with this years fly-in! We can always use more of course, but our chapter members have really come thru this time. Please check our voluteer page (click here) to see what jobs we still need filled.
Thanks!!!

Greg Shetterly's one design takes to the sky!
I don't have all the details yet, but more to follow as soon as we get them.
Cam Blazer's Monocoupe comes home!
I received a call on Monday afternoon (May 3rd)to inform me that the "Chicken" had left the coupe and was headed home to Gardner. After calling all concerned, I headed to the airport to welcome the new addition. Many of the regular airport bums showed up, and we all critiqued the new bird. I think I can speak for all present when I saw it is a beautiful airplane.
Congratulations to Cam, and D.J Short for bringing a truly gorgeous antique back to life!
Cam says "this is the only dollar I have left after the rebuild".
Won't buy much round engine fuel with that, will he?
